Macclesfield constituency

Walter, John and Nigel with Tatton Parliamentary Candidate, Tina Louise Rotheray

The Maccelsfield constituency group covers all areas of the Macclesfield parliamentary consituency.

We have a long established group in the area and have grown our support recently in local elections. We have also run campaigns on cutting carbon and climate change as well as organising leafletting activities.

Government plans for cycling and walking

The Government has published a pamphlet describing its "Bold future vision for cycling and walking in England". The itemised benefits are:

  • Healthier, happier and greener communities
  • Safer streets
  • Convenient and accessible travel

"Places will be truly walkable. A travel revolution in our streets, towns and communities will have made cycling a mass form of transit. Cycling and walking will be the natural first choice for many journeys with half of all journeys in towns and cities being cycled or walked by 2030."

This is very encouraging. It's packed with ideas about how councils should proceed.
