One of the top 5 reasons for not volunteering is “I haven’t been asked”. So, I’m asking you now! How could you help our community by volunteering? Would you make it a New Year’s Resolution to start? There are many organisations in Macclesfield who would welcome your help. We, in the Green Party, are out and about, come and join us?
I am involved, as a volunteer, helping addicts to recover from drugs and alcohol problems. It is very rewarding, and heart-breaking too. This year we have seen four people die of their addictions – mostly not directly but by suicide or accident – but we also have people in our group who have survived against the odds. One member doubts whether he would be alive but for our help – his wife, pre-school child, parents and friends get his company this New Year after all.
My local Green Party colleague, Rachael Marlow, was telling me just the other day about Just Drop In – helping children and their parents here in Macclesfield;
in Knutsford we have set up a Plastic Free Stall on a Friday at the Indoor market, and many, many of us are engaged with local and global environmental concerns: Save Danes Moss and Scoop and Scales of course, but also organisations like Global Justice Now. If you’re a volunteer, maybe the person you’re working with is a Green Party activist, we don’t shout about it!
You can find out what events you could join to support Cheshire East Green party here, or you can drop us a line at welcome@cheshireeast.greenparty.org.uk to let us know how we can get involved with yours!
