Macclesfield group

Macclesfield has the honour of being the birth place of Cheshire East Green Party and therefore has a number of active greens. We campaign throughout the year, meeting with local people and doing what we can to improve the town and surrounding areas. From sustainable shopping to protecting our natural environment.

John Knight and Rachael Marlow are two active Green party campaigners in Macclesfield. They started 2025 surveying their neighbours to collate views on the town and the local environment. This with a view to implementing the changes that the people want to see.

The surveying process has now come to an end. Thank you to everyone who took the time to respond. With a 14-15% return rate we have lots of information to work on.

Now you can look out for your Macclesfield Green View newsletters. If you haven’t had one through your door, please see the link below to read it online.

John and Rachael are regularly in the local news. Check out our News page to find out about their recent activity.

Save Danes Moss

Danes Moss is a historic peat bog and rare wildlife habitat which holds massive amounts of carbon in its soil. This place once extended across a thousand acres to the south of the Cheshire town of Macclesfield. After centuries of destruction by humans less than 500 acres remains of this former wilderness.

Whilst Cheshire East Council have withdrawn plans to build 950 houses and a major road through part of the site, the campaign continues to ensure the Danes Moss peatlands are restored and conserved for current and future generations to enjoy, and to maintain and enhance the richly diverse wildlife on the site.

Many Green Party members are active participants in this campaign and Cheshire East Green Party is proud to declare their support.
